Gudeg is a traditional dish from Yogyakarta, made from young jackfruit cooked with coconut milk. It takes several hours to prepare this dish. The brown color is usually obtained from cooking it with teak leaves. Gudeg is typically consumed with rice and served with a thick coconut milk broth (areh), chicken, eggs, tempe, tofu, and spicy krecek sambal. Gudeg is highly popular in Java, being a favorite for both home-cooked meals and street food. It is also industrially produced and available as canned food. Gudeg can also be found outside Indonesia, especially in neighboring countries such as Malaysia and Singapore.
Sale pisang (fried banana) is an iconic Indonesian snack. Although sale pisang is widely known by the Indonesian people, various regions in Indonesia have their own versions of sale pisang. Sale pisang is a light snack made from thinly sliced bananas, which are then heated in an oven or sun-dried. Once the bananas are dry and have a brownish color, they are coated in wheat flour and fried.
