  • Kue Balok, is an iconic pastry originated from Bandung. Kue Balok history can be traced back to Dutch Colonial Era in 1900s. Its ingredients aren’t that much different from general cake or pastry, like flour, baking soda, sugar etc. What makes Kue Balok iconic and different from other pastry is mainly its shape, and sometimes the environment in which Kue Balok baked and sold. The shape of Kue Balok is like Robur Car, an old Germany-made car that was quite popular back in Dutch Colonial Era in Bandung. This Robur Car shape is also have similarity to beam ceiling, and the word of “Balok” itself is beam in Indonesian. In most of Kue Balok shops in Bandung, the pastry made in modern kitchen with modern stoves or bakery. However, there are also some Kue Balok seller that still using traditional kitchen that uses wood for fire, and traditional kitchen utensil to bake. This traditional sense is also one of many that made Kue Balok iconic, and although its inconvenient with all the preparation and smokes came from the wood, people of Bandung appreciate and love it. However, as time goes, this traditional shop of Kue Balok wanes, because of the obvious financial inefficiency of using wood for fire instead of stove.
  • Kue Kamir, also known as khamir or samir, is a round-shaped bread that similar to pancake. Made from flour, butter, egg mixture, and have various fills like chocolate, banana, strawberry, and other fruits.
